BlueMat is a Cluster of Excellence based at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), with partners including Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, University of Hamburg, and the European XFEL.  BlueMat's vision is to rethink the role of water in materials and to develop a new class of nature-inspired, sustainable material systems, so-called "Blue Materials", whose functionality arises from water, one of the most abundant substances on Earth, and its unique properties. Our contribution lies in combining multiple imaging modalities with deep learning models to capture how water behaves in hierarchically porous materials across multiple scales. Wiebke Wollenberg from Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is pursuing her PhD within this project at the University of Rostock.
